What is EAL?
EAL (English as an Additional Language) is defined as the group of multi-lingual learners who have access to more than one language at home, work or school, including English. They may or may not be fully fluent in any or all the languages.
EAL is used to help those who are keen to improve and excel in their use and appreciation of English to find resources, support and special learning tools to achieve their life and educational goals.
Why is EAL Learning Important?
English is the primary communication language in almost every sector and industry in Australia. There are rare occasions where English is not essential in day to day communication, whether for recreational, social or professional activities. Without competence in written and spoken English, most people will find it difficult to excel in anything.
If you do not have English as your primary communication language, you may find it difficult to convey your thoughts, ideas and intentions to another. Having a stronger command of the language may open new opportunities and pathways for your learning, career and life.
Some of the benefits of exceling in EAL includes :
- Improved Confidence
- Learn and improve job seeking skills
- Communicate better
- Reach your goals
Learn English Melbourne helps you to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. It means you can enjoy living in Australia, make friends, and find a job.
Who Can Help?
EAL tutors are specialist English teachers who understand the challenges and mindsets that multi-lingual learners have and can help you accelerate your learning to master and excel in English so you can achieve your goals quicker.
EAL tutors are better equipped to guide you because they are usually more appreciative of different cultures and their learning styles so they can overcome learning blocks and help you learn quicker and more effectively.
At Learn English Melbourne, our experience in helping our learners master and excel in English is proven. Our learners’ testimonials and examples of work clearly project their confidence and joy. We emphasise joy and fun in learning so the process is more enjoyable and yields exemplary results.
Who Can Benefit?
In Victoria, statistics have shown that EAL is a significant group, accounting for about 13% in Government Schools. A recent statistic from the ABS has shown that overseas born Aussies are at their highest numbers in over a century (2015), with 8 of the Top 10 Countries of birth of Aussies in 2015 coming from non-primary English speaking countries.
EAL can be a challenge for anyone ranging from migrants to high school students, expatriates to part time workers on temporary visas. To excel in their chosen career or professional learning pathway, a good command and mastery of English is essential. Newly arrived migrants who intend to start their own business would also need to have a good command of English to be able to communicate well with staff, customers and business providers.
If you are a newly arrived migrant, a mature student who do not have English as your primary language, an international university student who can do with a little bit more support with learning English, we would love to hear from you. Learn English Melbourne meets learners in public spaces such as the library or in cafes around the Eastern Suburbs. Click here to find out more about our preferred meeting places.
