The Yarra River flows close to the main train station. You can sit or walk and watch people stroll along the walkways. Southbank has some good bars and restaurants, where you can watch the world go by.
In summer (December-February), it is sometimes very hot, so you might like a boat trip along the Yarra. You can go for a short trip up and down, or you can do a return day trip to Williamstown and spend some time at the beach.
But Southbank is a good spot to stop, if you are in the city centre with some time to spare. From here you can go on one of the many ferries.
The Yarra is a muddy river, but it is not as dirty as many of the rivers I have seen in Europe…
And Melbourne is a beautiful city in summer…
If you have never visited Melbourne- what are you waiting for?
There are even fewer flies than usual this year!
