Well- just for fun really!
I am Heather, and I teach English to newly arrived people who do not have English as their first language. In Australia, there seems to be a lack of relevant, free resources for adult learners, and I thought a blog with OER’s (open educational resources – ie free) would be useful. I want resources low level students can access themselves, and I thought the most useful idea was to post something that fits in with what most of them are learning in class (Certificates 1,2 and 3 of Spoken and Written English or CSWE).
Hence the blog. Over time, as I get better, I will organise posts, so it is easier to find specific vocabulary, for example.
Some posts are just vocabulary, others short descriptions. If teachers or students request something relevant to living in Australia, I will try to oblige.
I have an Irish accent, but feel that native speaker input is worthwhile as a practice tool, especially in an Australian context, where we have a huge variety of accents.
i plan to build up a variety of posts on basic vocabulary, which can be used as reading or spelling practice.
Some tasks are practice for CSWE assessments, but also can be used alone for general skill-building.
Why not put your toe in the water and ask for some materials you can use. You never know what you might find!
